A few years ago, smoking was banned inside all restaurants / bars here in NYC.
Same in England. However that just means that those who wish to smoke, stand outside the Bar/Restaurant and smoke there. So, passersby have to put up with their smoke instead.
I personally, can't stand people who smoke (Which is Ironic, seeing as how my mother smokes) It's just the fact that you have to go through their smoke. I hate the smell of Cigarette smoke, and whenever I have to go past someone who's smoking, I'll hold my breath.
Personally though, I find the kids at school who smoke are the worst. Partially because you can usually group them as the "Trouble-Makers/Don't-give-a-stuff's" that only go to school to talk to the others like them. Secondly, it's the fact that if someone is caught smoking in a public place, they're fined, however no such punishments goes to those who smoke in the schools, despite the fact that they're much, much more public than any other building. And if they are punished, it's generally a couple of days off of school, which they treat like a holiday, and go home proud of.
