The death penalty thread inspired me to start this thread. This is an issue I care about only because other people care SO STRONGLY about it that I feel the need to tell them (if they are pro-life) why their opinion is politically wrong and why this is a non-issue.
Personally, I am pro-life. I think abortion is wrong and if I was a female in an unwanted pregnancy I would have the baby, but politically I think it is unrealistic to take a pro-life standpoint and act on that because simply for this reason. Banning abortion doesn't remove the woman's feeling like she needs to get an abortion, it just removes her ability to have a safe and clean abortion performed. If I'm stripping her of that ability, I'm almost putting her in a worse spot because now, if her desire to have an abortion is stronger than her resolve to live through this pregnancy and have the baby, then she's going to get an illegal abortion performed that probably isn't safe and definitely isn't legal. She might even do something ridiculous, like stick a coat hanger up her uterus to self-abort the baby.
