What do you think of aborting a fetus with serious defects from an otherwise willing mother? What about letting a new born child live with severe disabilities that will plague them through their whole life?

I would not want to raise a child with a severe mental disability. A physical disability I can accept as long as it doesn't leave the child in some agonizing pain/vegetable state.

A baby is semi-sentient and considered developed enough to be human. It's not relying solely on it's mother any more. A fetus, on the other hand, is not sentient and is essentially a part of the mother.
