Author Topic: I Want To Start Mapping  (Read 894 times)

I am a pretty computer savvy teenager who would has been playing blockland for a few years and would like to start making maps.  Unfortunately, I have never done any coding or scripting of any kind.  I was wondering if there are any people who would be willing to help me and if someone would give me a free or reasonably priced program to get me started.  Tell me if what I am trying to do is completely unreasonable and if not any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.  Also, is map making a difficult (not time consuming, difficult) thing to try to do and can you only do it if you have expertise in the coding field?

Notepad for scripting. Look at other scripts, that's all I can say.

1. No one is going to tutor you on coding mods or "scripting", that's just how it works. It's all learned on your own via reading through other scripts and making your own.
2. Scripting: Notepad++ http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm
It's free, you don't even need it, really. You can code using notepad.
Modeling: Milkshape3D, Blender (free), or 3DsMax
3. Of course not, but it requires effort and self-motivation.
4. Terrain? No. Interiors, a bit. I don't exactly know how to make interiors but neither of these requires any coding knowledge.

If you're so savvy, you could post in the right section.

I misread the thread, I thought you were asking for help making mods.

Thanks for all this, and sorry for not posting in the right section.

And also, can anyone provide me with any of their coding so I can take a look at it.

If you owned Blockland (or knew how to read) you wouldn't need this.

well this is stupid, a while back i asked this same thing and a guy made a whole big tutorial that showed me how to do EVERYTHING!

and now none of you can even help this guy.....

I disagree with this, I think a tutor is the best way to learn coding. It's makes things a lot quicker if you're starting a new programming language and you have someone you can immediately get help from through a chat client (instead of waiting for a group of people to respond on the forums).

Of course if you don't know anyone that can make add-ons then I guess you're right.

Oh, I wasn't saying a tutor would be nice, I'm saying no other community scripters actually have the time or patience to tutor anyone.

That's a pretty nice resource for coding type things. I don't know how complete the mapping section is but the scripting part's pretty good.
