Do I have to portfoward a modem if I have cable/DSL?

Port forwarding is only required if you have a router (a small flashy box that your cable/dsl cable goes into).

Ok but how would I be able to fix the problem that I have? Does this mean i'll never be able to host or not for a long time?

What problem would this be?

I can't host and apparently i don't have to port foward if I have a modem. So how can i fix this problem?

Are you sure it's just a modem? It could be a router with built-in modem, most are these days.

Hmmm how would i find that out Ephi? Also if it is how would i be able to host? Please tell.

How would I find out if it has a built in router? If it does will I be able to host?

Host a server and ask someone to check if it's dead. If it is, foward your ports.

In other words; Host a server. If it's dead/people can't connect, you need to forward your ports.

Same way you do with a normal router.

Does it have more than one ethernet port on the back?

The same way you'd do it with a regular separate router/modem connection.
