Author Topic: My second Gmod Map.  (Read 2306 times)

This one, I feel is good enough to eventually post on Garrysmod. There were a lot of WIP pictures in the first thread, but I feel like there's enough new stuff and it's nice enough to merit a new thread, I'll lock the first one. Anyway, this took about 20 hours to complete. A lot of it was just Hammer open when I was doing other stuff, and there's a lot of inefficiency due to learning processes.

I think there's a lot of stuff I still need to do to optimize it for Gmod, because it takes a lot longer to load than my other maps, even though it is considerably smaller. I'll look into it.

exterior looks like a new house, interior looks like a hobo's hide out

It looks nice though. I suggest that you match exterior with interior.

HL2's texture base doesn't really have anything for squeaky clean wood floors and plaster walls/ceilings.

I guess that means I need to dip into custom textures. I'd disagree with the exterior looking like a new house, between the grimy windows and the darker stained brick it at least looks a little dilapidated.

Make the windows the breakable glass.

the design makes it look new imo

Ah, they're a pain D:

I don't find them to be much of a pain, just make one unit thick windows with the breakable texture, select one, ctrl t, func_breakablesurf, rinse, repeat.

Look on garrysmod.org, im sure you'll find great textures there...

Trust me, i make tons of maps.

Oh, making the actual window isn't a pain, but if you want it to respawn by itself that's a different matter.

Also, mind posting the VMF?
Go nuts, as long as you post some kind of comment after leafing through the VMF.

Thats the power of custom textures, bro.

Outside brick is eugh. Everything else is looking good, though. Like the map?

Like the map?
Yeah, I do. Its pretty nice.
Edit:
If you've been carving, Dont.
Carving brushes is very easy, and gives you results very fast. But if you can, DO IT YOURSELF. Hammer has the tendency to create hundreds of brushes extra when carving anything that isn't a simply box, and all those extra brushes won't do your map any good.
