For all you newbies out there, I have read my stuff.  The Zombie Survival Guide clearly states to move to cold areas, and quick.  The virus (100% of all zombie outbreaks have not been disproven to be caused by viruses) will not survive in the cold area.  The infection will be solely spread by contact.  My grandfather owns a house near Lake George and he has a boat which I would use in case of emergencies to escape in.  He has a farm that is 40 minutes away that has ATV's, hunting equipment, and guns.  I have a .22 handgun, a .308 rifle, and a machete at my house to start off with.  When the outbreak occurs, DO NOT contact the government.  They have been known to hide small outbreaks, killing everyone, zombie or not.  I am a sole survivor of my town's outbreak.  The only reason why I can post this is because I am in a moving vehicle.  Untraceable.  Untouchable.  Safe.

I agree that a less populated area would work out in the longrun, I think an area perfect to lye low in would be an island where you put your crops to grow around but dig an underground to live at. And yes i have read the book FTW.
