Author Topic: Windows Vista/7 Problem - PNG Backgrounds converted to JPG...? (Read 1602 times)

I'm having this issue that makes no sense whatsoever. When I try to set a PNG background on Windows 7 (the same apparently happens with Vista), it converts it to a noticeably lower-quality JPEG. Is there any way to stop it from doing this? I've looked on Google to no avail (everything I've searched comes up with just backgrounds for Windows Vista/Windows 7, or random topics about Compiz Fusion for Linux...) so I'd appreciate if anybody knew how to make Windows Vista/7 force PNG's as backgrounds. Thanks.

You could try downloading them and then using them, that worked for me.

Why not convert it to a jpeg with 100% quality via gimp?

What program are you using? I use Photoshop to convert stuff, and nothing goes wrong.

I think he's just finding them and Right-clicking "Set as Desktop Background".

I have the same problem. Whenever I use a bmp picture and right click, set as desktop, it always turns into jpeg for some reason.
It's annoying.

I never have this problem. I set a 2560x1600 PNG as my wallpaper with no issues.

Both the GNU Image Manipulation Program and Paint.NET show some quality loss when converting to a 100% JPEG.

it won't even let me use .PNG for backgrounds in Vista :(

Want to know something dreadful about 7 starter?

It's wallpaper, you cannot change it at all without a hack.

Also MS thought it was cute to hash protect it with the Shell32.dll.

How cute. The only way is to get StarDock MyColors and use that.

So, uh, get something better than starter. Starter's that one for PC noobs anyway, lol.
