MS used XML and patented it with it. But XML was patented in 1998 by a Canadian company.

OpenOffice + any other free-as-in-freedom (GNU GPL-licensed) software ftw. :D

But it's proprietary-as-in-proprietary.
Plus, after all the reformats I've done on Windows, Microsoft Office 2003 wouldn't let me use my product key anymore because I've apparently "used it on more than 5 computers".

And now we can get the latest version for free much easier.
I still have MS Office 2000, lol.


It said in the article they can continue selling Word as soon as they take out the XML part
