Author Topic: Build me a compooter.  (Read 5514 times)

It seems that you guys are really good at and enjoy building PC's. I recently decided that it would be nice to build a bitchin gaming computer, and I thought I'd seek your guys' advice on part. My price range is about $1000 and these are my expectations:

Case: Nothing fancy.
Mobo: Whatever's good.
PS: Whatever powers my baby.
CPU: Bitchin'. A decent quad core or really good dual core.
GPU: nVidia geforce 8800 gt or equivalent. Perhaps lower, if this is excessive for my price range.
HDD: At least 1/2TB, I'm flexible though.
RAM: Four gigs of the fancy stuff.
DVDD: Nothing fancy.

Can it be done under $1000?

Can definitely be done under 1000, I'm not gonna try because I can't, but there are people out there that can.

stuff! Gimme like 10 minutes.

EDIT: Do mind if it's an AMD processor?

Already have monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.

Are AMD's of less quality than Intel's? How much more would it cost to go w/ an intel?

Edit: also, do I need to get a network card w/ this too?

I'm personally an AMD fan. They are generally the same. Just wondering if you were a fan-boy of some sort.

Also, do you plan on overclocking or anything?

EDIT: No, the motherboard's lan port should serve just fine unless you have some sort of super-internet.

Under $1000, you can get something great. My brother got a Core i7 2.66 GHz, GTX 260, 910w PS, a good tri-SLI mobo and 6GB RAM.

Also I don't really know if the 8800GT is still sold, so I'd go with a 9800GT.

I might as well ask if this is your first computer build. If so, I would recommend the Raidmax Smilodon. I bought that case a year or two ago and it's probably the easiest system to work with when your a beginner.

I would recommend the HAF 922, should have lots of space for cable management, although this is what I've heard, I've never had one myself.

I'm using an antec 1200 right now. IT has a really nice cable management feature behind the mobo try.

Yeah, this is my first. I'm probably going to bring the parts into the computer guy at my school and see if he can give me any help.

AMD is fine, as long as I'm not nixing quality for price.

When you say build do you mean buy?

When you say build do you mean buy?
No, by buying parts at stores or disassembling computers to create a custom one.

Why does it seem that everyone just happens to have $1000 to spend.

When you say build do you mean buy?
Usually you can just walk down to Best Buy, buy parts, go home and build one but they tend to be more expensive/time consuming/less range of stuff.

But yes, they do mean to build a computer.
