Author Topic: My guitar amp might be in trouble  (Read 810 times)

I think she's sick. About five minutes after the warm-up, the normal bright sound begins to sound muffled for 30 seconds to a minute. I hear a sound during this time that sounds like a flag waving...  or maybe waves crashing. After this, it's fine.

I'm still very worried. Could this be dying tubes? Other than this minute period, the amp sounds great.

Also, hurr the loving durr, Jack.

This happened to one of the amps in my school. It kept making a sort of a wave crashing sound for about a minute and the next day the Amp broke. Everyone in my school does vandalise all the music equipment though so ours could just be because of that.

It's been doing this for...  4 months?

Then my problem was probably just pupils from my school vandalizing it then. It sounded similair to your problem though.

Hmm.

My mind tells me its the 12ax7's that are acting up, but the first logic I get from your post is that it might be a capacitor.

Can you upload a sample so I can hear what you're talking about bones?

Depends how long you've had it.  If you've only had it for a little/changed your vacuum tube recently, then it shouldn't be the tube.  I've never had a pure vacuum tube, though, only hybrids, so I'm not sure how long they last.
