Materials required:
1)iPod
2)iTunes with EXACT same copy of the song you want to listen to that is on your iPod.
3)Around-ear headphones.
5)Earbuds.

Procedure:
1) Plug earbuds into iPod, headphones into your computer.
2) Turn iTunes EQ to 'bass booster'.
3) Turn iPod EQ to 'Treble booster'.
4) Put on earbuds underneath headphones.
5) Cue up the song you want to play both in iTunes and on your iPod at the beginning.
6) Start the two (but really one) song at the EXACT same time, adjusting as necessary for delays when you press the play button (i.e. starting one a little bit earlier than the other)
7)  Adjust volumes to get a good sound equilibrium where neither of the sounds overpower each-other.
8)...
9) Awesome sounding music! profit!

You could probably get similar sounds by monkeying with the EQ, but the physical separation of the sound because of the headphones/earbuds can only be achieved with headphones and earbuds. It's the same reason you can't get a true software replacement for surround sound.

Oh, oh. It might be hard to get software to control the iPod and iTunes simultaneously.

Anyway, I got a pretty sick sound from this. I turned the preamp down because of the EQ extremes I was starting to get distortion. Turn up your system/speaker/headphone sound to get volume and no distortion.


I mean so that you plug both sets straight into the computer so they're both feeding off of the music program, then use your sound card to alter the separate phones.

Yeah but then you can't alternate which one is bass boosted and which one is treble boosted.
