Author Topic: PC crapped out -- Anyone know why?  (Read 1915 times)

FFFFFFFFFF QUIT POSTING STUFF AND TRYING TO MAKE YOURSELF LOOK LIKE YOU KNOW STUFF ABOUT COMPUTERS
I think he's been trying to say.
Check your fan! Maybe your pet broke it.

About two weeks ago, I was browsing the GameFAQs forum. I went to a link of a picture on photobucket parodying the PS3 "it only does everything" ad. After looking at the picture for about five seconds, I hit back and the computer froze. Not the kind of freezing where you can still move the mouse, everything just froze.

And I turned it off and back on again, and it just kept making a long beep without showing anything on the screen. The beep would continue until I turned the computer off.

Anyone know if this was from a virus, or just some hardware glitch/problem?

Overheated.
Give it a break, and make sure you inspect the fans.

WHAT GAMES.
HOW.
WHY.
WHEN.
HOW MANY.
Steam games
Uhh, downloaded them
Because I liked the games
Over a period of two years
Uhh, maybe 20. not sure

I knew my cat had it out for that computer. Ever since I got it I've been too distracted to feed her

I guess that's why it did that right after I kept forgetting to turn it off at night... I gave it a two week break, and it still doesn't work. I'm guessing something is permanently damaged.

Perhaps it was a major overheat and something fried before the computer shut itself off.

Ok, so only steam? Then anything suspicious downloaded you weren't sure about near that night?

I don't download anything from any sites that McAfee site advisor says are bad. So, no, I guess.

I hate vista. Half the games I have on disc don't even work on it because they're so old. I don't want to upgrade to a more buggy OS and have over $100 of games that don't even work with it.

Well, I can't really doubt that.

...I loaded that forgeter up with an assload of games.

Ok seriously, this is the ONLY post in this entire topic with a reasonable answer. The rest is just random crap written by 12 year olds. Ignore them.

It's not even showing the black screen with white text where you can input the re-format key combo. It's just a black screen for as long as I leave the PC on.

That happened to my dad's computer and the fan was making a loud howling noise. He lost all the data, except mine* and his.

It was definitely a virus. A very deadly virus.

*My data mysteriously disappeared a few days later.

I'm going to go with the fans theory on this one.  And your reply isn't clear on whether or not you checked them and cleaned them if needed.
