IMO, New Year's celebrations are kind of stupid.

A year passed, and so what?  If you decided to make your start of a new year June, your "new year" would have been a few months ago.  To me, it really has no great significance other than parties.

Also: the Times Square ball drop is something I find to be stupid.  According to Fox, the tradition started because they didn't want to set off fireworks in the city, so they dropped a ball.
But really?  You go to New York, which can be an international trip for many, and cram in with another million or so people, and most of the time you're there all day, just to see a ball drop?

Now I could see it as interesting if the ball was engineered to start at the top of the pole on Jan 1st and slowly drop by the force of gravity so it hits the bottom exactly at 11:59:59 on Dec 31st, but that's not the case.  It's just some guy pressing a button.

That's just my opinion on New Year's, yours?

One year closer to getting off this rock :D

Now I could see it as interesting if the ball was engineered to start at the top of the pole on Jan 1st and slowly drop by the force of gravity so it hits the bottom exactly at midnight on Dec 32st, but that's not the case.  It's just some guy pressing a button.
What planet do you live on?

Someone spent New Year's alone.

Someone spent New Year's alone.
Most likely true. I hear similar statements on Valentine's day.

Meh, another excuse to have parties. Why complain?

exactly at midnight on Dec 31st,
That would be 12/31/09 0:00:00

Also: the Rockefeller Center ball drop is something I find to be stupid.
Times Square ball drop, learn2NewYork

Someone spent New Year's alone.
No, if you read the fourth sentence you would know I didn't.

That would be 12/31/09 0:00:00
You know what I mean.

Times Square ball drop, learn2NewYork
Once again, you knew what I meant.

Edit:
Fixed to prevent further smartassery.

I see nothing about being with others.

I see nothing about being with others.
To me, it really has no great significance other than parties.

In case you didn't know, parties often involve a group of people.

In case you didn't know, parties often involve a group of people.
Did you even read your own post? There's nothing saying you were at a party.
All I got about parties was:

New Years was alright this year.
A few fireworks and shotgun shells and a bowl of ketchup chips.

In case you didn't know, parties often involve a group of people.

That says nothing about you being at parties.

Well if the day only means parties to me, wouldn't that suggest that I attend parties?
Just saying.

Anyway, we're getting pretty off topic due to some trivial mistakes in my post and what you guys cannot interpret in a sentence.

New Years was alright this year.
A few fireworks and shotgun shells and a bowl of ketchup chips.
This is pretty much what I'm getting at.  New Year's can be fun without a ball dropping.

I'm pretty sure you guys think I'm bashing New Year's as a whole; I'm really only bashing the whole ball tradition and questioning why it's so important to people.

New Years sucked. I was dragged to a party with very little sleep. Spent 3 hours passing out on a table but never sleeping because it was too loving loud. Didn't even get to spend it with my girlfriend.
