Author Topic: How do i get my IP adress to be static?  (Read 398 times)

I have a dynamic IP adress and, its really annoying when i try and host a server and i realise that my IP must have changed again, so i have to go to my default gate way, change the number and then host.. it would be much more helpful if i had a static IP, could someone help?

By changing to a router or service provider, that uses Static IP's, worked for me. Example of Static ip ISP: BT

Go to start > run > cmd.

Type ipconfig. Find your IP adress.

Type Ping IPAdress

Type ARP -a

You should get a MAC adress and an IP Adress

Type ARP -s IPAdress MACAdress

If you follow those instructions it will work.

Usually routers will allow you to configure a static IP for your computer (not your internet connection). It might be under the name "LAN IP Reservation" or something along those lines. Login to your router and have a look around and see what you can find.
