Author Topic: Problems in Education  (Read 7127 times)

If you walk into any public school and talk to any teacher, you will hear the same complaints: Too many children in the classroom, not enough supplies or text books, students unable to sit quietly or focus on the teacher, and of course, teachers not paid enough money. If the list goes further you will find the physical conditions of the school itself is faulty.

It has gotten to the point to where kids are bumped up a grade just because the teachers are tired of dealing with them. Some seniors are graduating highschool with being able to read and write.

Where did all of this crap begin?

Grade system is based around industrial era worker training.

Kids are turned off of learning because they are graded and compared to others. They become numbers, and for some grades take over their lives.

Everything about the modern educational system is flawed.

Damn the schooling system!

I was depressed when I got a C- on my social studies at grade 4.
but the PS2 made up for it :D

Sure a teacher will tell you they don't make enough doing what they do.
Any person from any profession will.

Douuble the pay, and they still will

Too many children in the classroom,
Problem with the building. Increased funding probably would help.
not enough supplies or text books,
Isn't this a blessing in a cruse? That means people are using them. (Unless they are doodling fools)
students unable to sit quietly or focus on the teacher,
This is a matter of respect. I know numberous people who worship the teacher with their unyeilding attention.
teachers not paid enough money.
If I enjoyed my job. I'd be fine with lower pay. An increase in respect, would do the trick.

They only do this because they want a good grade.

The concept of grading is not designed to help you learn. It's designed to help employers rank you.

I wouldn't say that yet. I do it, because I love what I'm learning. What if I hate what I'm learning? I still try to respect my teachers.

Generally, I don't care about grades. At all. However, if I'm getting constant F's I know something is wrong.

Teachers need a master's degree or higher to teach in a certain subject. Some workers without a college degree make more money than they do. Double the pay, and they might actually do some work.

What I hate is that if the teachers fail students for being stupid or disruptive, they get their low paying job threatened. If students fail, they fail. I am tired of seeing people getting bumped up a grade so that teachers can keep their jobs.

Teachers get payed so little because there are so many of them
Fire a teacher and you can replace them next day

Schools focus too much on standardized testing scores, which results in bulimic learning.  Kids learn, take the test, then forget; which makes the teachers teach the same things every year.

My solution: get rid of school completely.  :cookieMonster:

No one else laughed at Dkamm's quote?

Anyway, I don't think it's the grades that are the problem. I think it's the student to teacher ratio. When one teacher has only two eyes, they can't watch all the students at once and teach at the same time.
