One idea is to let the user pick whether or not to back stuff up.

I know for sure that I have and will save things that I could care less about losing.

I don't think I'd let users be selective. What I'm aiming for is something that is totally transparent to the user and happens without them knowing/having to do anything. Of course I could include an option to disable it entirely if it was giving people trouble or if they simply didn't want it.

i would guess the screenshots are bigger then the save file? maybe not, i wouldn't know.
but mines >20m,
I only have my own saves lol and even then i save everything 3 times as 3 diff files, just to be safe

i delete the default saves lol.
i try and have an ftp connection of my entire save folder to my site so i can share my files to myself fast.
cept i always forget to then dont have them for a week when i needed it.
