Are there ant advantages to doing to the normal server hosting with port forwarding? Like less lag or something?

All it does is talk to your router to portforward itself.

I get the Sending Punch Packet thing, but it only repeats around 4 or 5 times. I'm not exactly, oh, "happy" about V14. :/

I have the same emitter problem, but I can't get it to do it consistently. It seems to stop and start at complete random.

I believe the particle emitter problem happens when you are hosting a game and someone else suffers a connection error.
