Author Topic: Do macs still have no viruses?  (Read 1644 times)

Im thinkingof getting a mac soon, and just wanna know :D

lol

Yes, there are viruses for Macs.

Of course Macs have viruses. Just not as many of them. Plus, Macs generally cost more for hardware that you can get for a lot cheaper in a PC.

There is a virus for many types of operating systems but the most common virus is for PC because Pc is the largest owned computer.

the first viruses for macs came out less than a month after the new "anti-virus" mac came out.

Sortof.
There's more viruses for the PC because it's an easier development platform. This means it's easier to create programs in Windows, like an internet browser. However, some programs are malicious, you know them as "viruses". Mac uses a different OS, which is not built for the same things. There ARE Mac viruses, but they aren't as plentiful.

Some guy hacked a Mac in less than 2 minutes or something like that.

People that create viruses do it for 1 of 2 reasons.
1. They are trying to steal info or some other illegal action
2. To mess with people.

If a company says that they don't have viruses, people will create them because of a lack of knowledge, so it's easier to fly under the radar. Or they will create them just to spite the company. Why do you think hackers hack? Either because they want something out of it or just because they can.

Untrue. Viruses are created for many reasons. Advertising, data collection, fraud, and most frequently, malicious activities. Botnets, for example, are viruses that can direct bandwidth (conficker) for advertising sites or even taking sites down. Some people make them to prove a point.

Also hackers usually hack just for fun.
ALSO for both of these parties, there's the white-hat group that does that stuff for good, finds security holes for companies and stuff like that.

use a mac regularly, never had a virus

use a pc every once in a while, never had a virus

just don't be a dumbstuff, k?

That's kinda what I meant by reason 1. I guess I didn't explain as well as I thought.

Not in my experience. While a hacker might be having fun, they usually have a goal in mind other than hacking for the sake of hacking. Usually it's for manipulation. I.E. Jailbreaking the iPhone, Custom Firmware for the PSP, Custom Drive Firmware for the Xbox, cheating in a game, free software/products, etc. That is unless you count those things as modding and not hacking.

Didn't mention that because I thought it was irrelevant to the topic.

Well viruses aren't typically illegal, and what they do isn't usually illegal.

You were explaining reasons and you forgot a huge party. I thought it was relevant to your post.

To stop getting viruses stop clicking adverts and stop clicking YOU HAVE WON! A PALYSTANTION!

True. My mistake.

Umm, yes they are and yes it is.

Creating any program that affects somebodies computer without their consent is illegal.

Not exactly, you have to download a virus, they don't usually just plop on your computer. That's why they aren't illegal. Downloading is something you do by choice.

Fine example. Better example:
love is something you do by choice. By doing that whore you risk contracting an STD. By downloading you risk getting a virus.
