My family has recently been... uh, "terrorized" by a murder of a couple members. The story is as follows;

CITY - A COUNTY man, suspected in the double murder of his father and brother, has been jailed pending charges on two counts of deliberate homicide. KILLER, 30, also faces charges of kidnapping, assault with a weapon and aggravated burglary, after allegedly holding his wife, kids, father-in-law and a family friend at gunpoint. According to COUNTY Sheriff COP, KILLER was arrested earlier this week, charged with loveual assault against his estranged wife. He was later released, but a restraining order prohibited him from approaching her again. Then, COP said, deputies received a call at about 1 a.m. Thursday, from a family friend reporting that KILLER was at the wife's home, east of CITY in CITY. She told deputies that KILLER had entered the home at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, "very agitated," COP said. "He burst in through the back door, with a rifle." Inside was the wife's friend, the wife, the father-in-law and the couple's three young children. "So he takes the adults down at gunpoint," COP said, "duct tapes them and basically terrorizes them for about three hours." The children, he said, were not duct taped. The wife's friend, eventually, appealed to KILLER, saying she was overdue at home, and suggesting that her husband might soon come looking for her. "She actually talked him into allowing her to go home," COP said. "She promised him that she wouldn't call the police, and he bought it. She even talked him into giving her the rifle." KILLER unloaded the .22-caliber rifle (the ammunition was later found in KILLER'S pants pocket), and turned the friend loose. "Of course, she went home, told her husband what was going on, and they called us," COP said. Deputies parked well away from the home, the sheriff said, approached undetected and peeked in a living room window. KILLER, COP said, "was sitting on the couch, and the family was watching TV together." Deputies rushed the door, and arrested KILLER without incident. "At that point," COP said, "we thought it was over." But later in the day, while KILLER still was jailed, COP'S office received a second call from the same CITY neighborhood, from the house where KILLER had been living with his 38-year-old brother, BROTHER, and their father, FATHER, age 60. The call came from BROTHER ex-wife, COP said, who was reporting that she was unable to get in touch with her former husband. She'd been to the house, and found his vehicle there, but the house doors were locked and no one responded from inside. A deputy arrived, and through a window spotted a foot on the living room floor. He forced entry, COP said, and found FATHER dead, presumably shot to death. He later found BROTHER dead in an unattached shop on the same property. Following a search of the property, and interviews with KILLER and others, "we've established that KILLER is our man," COP said. "The evidence points to KILLER, and a lot of evidence, too." COP said that the evidence suggests KILLER shot his father and brother before barging into his wife's house, "and we think it was a very short time period, from the time when he allegedly shot them to the time he went to the wife's house." The bodies have been transported to the state crime lab in CITY for forensic autopsy, COP said, and KILLER remains detained in COUNTY jail.

My dad is driving out with his other brother on Monday to attend funeral services on Wednesday.

The FATHER was my grandfather, my dad's dad. The KILLER was my dad's step brother. The BROTHER was also my dad's step brother.

I've never had something happen like this in my family before. I didn't know them that well but still, this sucks. I can't imagine what my dad's going through, which leads me to the topic.

How could you pull the trigger on anyone? How can you kill another human being? Your own family, even?

Discuss.
