The story takes place during one weekend in Tel-Aviv, in three main spots that lead to Carmel Market. There are three protagonists : 1. Tarek , a Palestinian youth from Nablus. 2. Katz , an embittered old fellow. 3. Keren , a 17 year old girl , who grew up in a strictly religious family , left her home to become a secular youngster. The three "heroes" are loners, driven by their past and by their inner conviction
The story mainly follows Tarek, who has run into very hard times and has come to the conclusion that there is only one way to make everyone's life better, he will become a Self Delete bomber. Once he is briefed on what to do his handlers bring him to a crowded market, he moves into a crowded area near a stall and as the music speeds up you see his hand shift towards his sleeve where the detonator is hidden. He presses the button and... Nothing happens. He runs to contact his handlers and they tell him to repair the button. over the course of the weekend he makes friends with some of the people in the area and through these emotional bonds he begins to doubt whether or not he wants to actually do it. In the end the choice does not become his own. So as not to spoil it I will not go into anymore detail.
The movie was made in Israel and has been translated into German and Hebrew, I watched the whole thing with English subtitles of course. It's in theaters now, but only in Manhattan. It was nominated for 7 awards and won 2 and they were well deserved. It was by far the best movie I've ever seen.
If you don't feel like going to New York to see this movie then I suggest you look it up cause it is defiantly worth seeing.
