Author Topic: AutoDesk?  (Read 1868 times)

Yeah, I found a site called AutoDesk (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/home?id=14425160&siteID=123112). I was just wondering if you can use that for BL?

3DS Max? Have you seen how much it costs? I'd Stick with Blender or MS3D

AutoCAD can be used to make maps, though I don't know if you can make other add-ons with any of their programs. If so I'd like to know how.

Auto Desk, the leading 3D model studio creator. Amazing stuff.

You can use it for anything. And I mean anything.

- Design
- Entertainment
- Engineering
- Blockland

However, it costs a crap load of money.

Lucky. I just get freeware, like Blender. It's hard at first, but awesome

I've tried to make a door for JVS Content with it, Was way too complicated.
My bet is you are going to pirate this.
Just use blender or milkshape.

I'm still curious if it's possible to make add-ons with at least Inventor, and if so, how.

Inventor has an obj exporter so it definitely should. You can also import 3d dwg files from AutoCAD into Inventor and Sketchup. Sketchup has had an obj exporter plugin since Sketchup 5, I don't know if it still works but you can still jump through .dae anyway, or use Valve's vmf exporter for maps. Then there's 3Ds Max and Maya, both of which are autodesk products now. I think they've got dts and map export plugins already.

You can basically model in any program you want, all that matters is how many programs you feel like jumping through. It's perfectly fine to introduce multiple programs into your workflow, provided they all play nicely together and don't give you lots of garbage when you import. It's okay to start in Sketchup and end in Blender and it's fine to start in Inventor and end in 3ds Max.

Case and point, Sketchup has a LDRAW importer. You can model a vehicle in LDraw and get it into Blockland with some work.

Also, if you want pretty renderings of guns and things you drew in Sketchup, try Kerkythea. To be honest it's been sitting on my dekstop for a few months, but I've seen some nice renderings from sketchup done in it.

3DS Max can do vehicles/weapons/Maps/anything that Milkshape and blender does for Blockland.

Does Max 10 have an exporter yet?

I can't figure out how to edit AutoCAD 3d files in Inventor. It gives me no editing tools when I open it.

Edit: All I really need to know is how to get a Blockhead into an Inventor format. I've tried tons of export/import combos with AutoCAD, Sketchup, and Inventor with no luck.
