I don't believe you can alter time.

Because when you are ready to go back in time and change something, you have a reason to do it. But after it's been changed, the time you wanted to change it wouldn't have a reason, therefore he would just not do it.

Leave blueprint for time machine to earlier self. Leave note of things you want changed and some important info.
