Author Topic: Upgrading a laptop?  (Read 1294 times)

Okay, so I have a Dell 1537 laptop that I got about a year ago. When I got it, I was a little hyped up with the fact that I was getting my own laptop that I bought default everything because that was all I currently had the money for at the time (a stupid mistake I now realize). Now I'm curious if there's a way to upgrade it, like give it a better graphics card or processor. I don't know stuff about what goes on inside a computer, so bear with me. I Googled this and found a lot of guides for doing it yourself, which I'd prefer not to do because I'd probably break something. Is there a way to send my laptop to Dell and get them to upgrade it, or can I bring it to a computer store for the same effect, or am I stuck with what I have unless I do it myself?

Well it's possible but it's complicated. More complicated than regular desktop building.

Yeah, I assumed that much. I guess if I had a detailed guide I could do it, but I'd rather make sure there's no other possible option first.

You're most definitely out of luck, both ways.
Usually, laptop processors are integrated, and there is no way of upgrading the graphics (as that's integrated too).

I read a tutorial about upgrading graphics cards; it's extremely time consuming and frustrating though.

The only thing you can upgrade in a laptop (that I know of) is basically RAM, or if possible, use an external graphics card.

Good luck finding a way to upgrade it.

Even so called "dedicated cards" are soldered into the motherboard nearly 90% of the time. There are very few laptops that won't have integrated graphics cards, that you can actually replace.

Well damn.

Now I guess my only choice is to get a new computer, something I'd rather not do. I guess I'll just cope with this one for now, I like it even though it has problems running big things. Thanks guys, I'll leave this topic open for any additional comments.

My comment: Build a desktop, that way you don't have to buy expensive laptops and you can re-use your keyboard, mouse, monitor, hard drive, dvd drive and case when you need to.

i did get one
I own a tower. Its old, but I still like it. It forgets up marginally less than the house's other two computers, but IDK whether that is me or the PC. And its probably not me. I use the internet a lot.

Well damn.

If you plan on building one...

Is there an external graphics card?
