I play air battles almost exclusively as Japan. I enjoy the A6M's when they aren't broken in some way but i'm flying more of the B7A right now.

Wait, when is that coming? The H8k?

It's on the Japanese release tree. It's Japanese so we probably won't be seeing it for a while. The last two Japanese aircraft tested (ki-42-I, ki-27) aren't in yet but we should see them in the next update.

Generally in early navy aircraft, yes, however almost all Japanese aircraft in the game can be taken down with MG fire including the ki-102 and G8N.

The ki-102 should be one of the most armoured aircraft in the entire game yet it can be taken down as fast as an A6M2.

Well, japan has the H6k4 which at tier 1, is a beast for loving up a fighters day. Also it can unlock 2 800lb bombs that insta-kill enemy bases so...
Yeah, also the speed. The loving speed of that bomber... Nothing, not even a PBY-Catalina can stand up to this thing. Its not even worth the spot of tier 1 its more like tier 2. Also japan is extremely good. I don't see why people hate/complain that Gaijin isn't giving them a boost. I've out maneuvered spits and LaGGs. Now that's something. 

     Then you're not fighting competent opponents. Japan lost it's air superiority in the pacific for multiple reason, but the largest one being US pilots getting smart. As soon as your enemy realises, "Oh I should just NOT turn and fly away." You're done for. None of the A6M's can keep up with anything at their tier (let alone fight any of their historical counterparts) and a good boom'n'zoom pilot can fly circles around a single Japanese pilot. A6M's are the most fragile, overtiered, overpriced aircraft in the game and it gets worse with every update. Luckily the War Thunder playerbase is horrible in arcade and the A6M's turning will outfly anyone in arcade furrballs.

     That being said, I fly Japan almost exclusively and the Japanese bombers are nothing to laugh at. Most of the bombers are small, fast, and agile with horrible bomb loads and excellent defenses. The H6K has the best defense and bomb load for it's tier and I cannot wait for the H8K.

I just had a pretty good game in my Tiger I.

Still trying to get the hang of using it but I got 4 kills in SB.

Our team was cleaning up and moving towards the enemy spawn when a t-34 right around a corner scared the hell out of me.

Flying Japan gets harder every update. From insane BR's to ridiculous repair costs, there's no point in flying Japan in AB.

I can't imagine grinding the nation now after the changes to research. Luckily I grinded the entire tree ages ago.

If you insist on flying Japan (like me), I'd suggest grabbing an A6M2/M3 or the premium M5 if you do not have them, and fly with mates in realistic battles.

I recently got the Tiger I and I'm going to start working towards the Panther soon.

Custom battles with friends are really fun.
