It was the aftermath of the minecraft port. Notch told him he wanted mojang to make it themselves not have a port, so the guy could make a similar thing but not a minecraft thing itself, hence the new images for blocks.

Yeah they do, I just checked the app's info on my iPod. That's pretty cool.
