Author Topic: Holy stuff guys, I'm in an actual radio station  (Read 1325 times)

88.1 is the GPB frequency here
I guess they don't have GPB in Ohio, though

Talk about Canadia and their oil powered computers and meeses.

I have no idea what GPB is, no.

My dad has worked in radio his whole life basically, and my mom used to, and I can tell you that no matter how great college radio is, it's a pretty dead market. Meaning you're not getting too many listeners outside of the college, let alone out of the state. If you want the real radio experience, once you've been in college radio for a while, maybe try applying at a real station if it seems like something you want to do (or at least try).

Your dad has never worked at our radio station.

Perhaps I should rephrase what I said before. We are the number one student ran station in the entire nation, and are ranked at number three in the world. We have a rough estimate of no less than 25,000 listeners at any given minute. Oh, not to mention we were rated number one for every consecutive year since 1992. That's almost 20 years at the top, straight.

I mean, your dad is right about college radio in general; but at the same time, in our local market we outrank even professional radio stations in the ratings. I'm not saying he's wrong, not at all. I'm just saying this isn't just a run of the mill college station. We do work here, and I've been aspiring to join this station since the eight grade. My dreams are realized.

Oh and like I said, there is an internet feed so technically it's a world wide station, but that's pretty much a given for every station in the country.

But yeah. Admittedly the content is just a pop/rock music station, but you never know. I mean, Howard Stern used to make headlines by being witty and different on a small country music station. Besides, I'm not striving for fame here, I'm striving to have an awesome time and actually be on real radio waves.

I only say all of this because I'm countering to you being the biggest party pooper ever. lol
