Author Topic: Brick Studs  (Read 881 times)

A gallery topic here was posted and it grabbed my attention towards 3D brick studs. I remember seeing a mod for it a while back and was wondering what happened to it; was it bugged, didn't work, doesn't exist.. I'd like to know.

I thought it looked really nice for a game about building blocks.

Well, read the second to last post in that gallery topic.
And oh look, dualtone avatars.

Read the post, but I'm asking about an older mod and whether it existed or not. And if you're talking about how nice it looks in the game.. I think it looks good. Makes it feel more Lego'ish. Also, I'm sure there's... a few.. others who would agree.

also.. Hadn't seen any dualtone avatars recently when I made mine one, which was a while ago. I think that reminded people, not sure. Though this one is newer than my older dualtoned.

That's really not a good thing

Getting a bit off topic. I'd just like to know if there was a mod or if it's possible.

The game would lag more if every brick had studs. Not to mention you would then have to use print plates if you ever wanted flat floors. Generally it would be an unattrqctive idea.

Tophius attempted this before, i think i remember him doing it with a 64x64 baseplate and it took atleast a second between the time he clicked and the time the ghost brick came up.

Right..  there might be a way to apply the illusion of brick studs without having to go through a method that would cause lag, but since I have no idea how these things work I'll leave it at that.

Cheers for the feedback.

just think of it this way, normal bricks are made up of rectangular prisms
the more there are, the more faces there are to be rendered, right?
if you have little cube studs on top, not even round, that adds 5 extra faces per stud on a brick
a 1*1 would have 11 faces instead of 6, a 64*64 would have 20486 faces instead of 6
overall the best case is you'll only be able to render half as many bricks before you start the lag
worst case is.. 1/20480th?

also, there's a brick texture that somebody made to look like lego studs
