Author Topic: Microsoft's new "immersive display experience"  (Read 1401 times)

Microsoft should not be trying to make games more immersive. They totally suck at doing so.

The closest anyone will ever get to immersive gaming will have to make something along the lines of this:
  • The player stands in a circular enclosed space and steps onto a treadmill wearing a motion suit.
  • Wires are attached to their brain to notify the treadmill when the playing is going to walk or jump.
  • When the player is about to walk, the brain sends signals to the treadmill, making it move at the same pace you are walking, and thus moving your in game character.
  • Two small cables are attached to each shoulder. Each time you jump in game, the wires from your brain will once again send signals to the cables; When you jump, the cables will hold you up until you land in game. The treadmill shakes a little when you land. This idea would be good for games like Mirror's Edge.
  • The walls are all screens. forget 3D, if you want to be immersive you have to be in the loving game, not just looking at Virtual Reality slightly stick out at you.

Then developers run away with it and make what they want.
Apart from it won't sell because it will cost millions of dollars.

Proper, realistic virtual reality will never happen unless you have a forget ton of money. End of.

If you have wires attached to your brain you could technically in some way control the whole game with your mind without needing a treadmill and the like. The problem with that is that your brain is always thinking of a million things.

That's looks about right, but it's kind of restricted to FPS's.
Not necessarily, that's just all its been used for up until now. As far as I know.

Hahaha same here

$20 says that some other company (HINT HINT) will patent a slightly edited, more expensive, copy with a different name?
sony

-snip-
If they can read you brain then the whole idea of a treadmill and stuff are stupid. Sending signals back into the brain is much easier than reading it, so they would just spoof everything and save a lot of space.

Which would have no Moving and no realism. So It wouldn't do.

Sending signals to your brain. Signals to your brain. Like, your brain gets signals that say it is doing things.
