Author Topic: Roblox's Dynamic Lighting in Beta (IMPORTANT 4/12/13)  (Read 4854 times)

even big buckaroo games have that lol

pretty sure it's just current technology
It took valve until CS:GO to have CSM, most unreal 3 games still use lightmaps too.

This is actually one of my most favorite things right now. I have a lot of dark places and this really spices them up.

The gametest servers are open BTW. Check them out.

Blockland's shadows look better because an orange bearded overlord came along, ate our terrains and interiors and spat out the shadows and shaders we see today

The fact the player has their own lights ruins it.

The player does not glow.

Anyway, Shedletsky asked for some places to show off lighting with and he chose a few really great ones. He even chose mine which showed up at 0:42 in the video.

How do you forget up audio like that?  It's actually maxing out, I haven't heard music that does that before.

Yeah, I don't really know what they are but they said that in the video. The shadows don't look that bad, they look low quality but is rather have something like that, a bit more shadowy than Blockland's crazy perfect lines (not perfect but jagged)...actually id rather have Blockland's, it's more realistic but these shadows don't look that bad. Watch the first video for some live gameplay.

this, however, is not a design choice, it's an engine limit. Torque as a whole (including T3D) doesn't do dynamic shadows all that well.

All the shadows in these test shots make small spaces look like those early 3D animations from before they got smooth shading right and everything just looked really weird.

It's Shedletsky, he pretty much forgets everything up, but that makes him a lovable thief/ clutz.

doesn't make me want to play it any more than I do now
