why do that? (I have the conduit "virus" but it's not doing anything at all)

Well, think about it. Some of those things include other bad stuff that piggybacks along with them.

Quarantine pretty much keeps it away from everything. It's not even in the thing, possibly encrypted or hidden away somewhere where it can do no harm. That way, if it's a false positive, you can recover it later for some reason if you want to even though that's not safe.
