10:53 PM - Masterlegodude: Source Karts, not as fun as i thought it would be, my first impression of it was pretty odd
10:53 PM - Masterlegodude: Battle mode is the funnest part, but it kept ending with me and some other person still alive
10:54 PM - *Yndaaa: it feel clunky?
10:54 PM - Masterlegodude: Very
10:54 PM - *Yndaaa: imagined
10:54 PM - *Yndaaa: source doesnt have great vehicle physics
10:55 PM - Masterlegodude: I think since it's the first actual racing gamemode, clunkiness is to be expected, but it's still pretty rough for a public version
10:55 PM - Masterlegodude: It looked better in the trailer
10:57 PM - Masterlegodude: Whenever i tried drifting for even a second, i kept sliding all over the place trying to keep myself on track
10:57 PM - Masterlegodude: Which when i went off track, getting back on would be very slow (Mario Kart style, only much slower feeling)
10:58 PM - Masterlegodude: And occasionally the wheels would bump into the track itself and make me lose even less time getting back on track
10:58 PM - Masterlegodude: And bumping into a wall made me feel like a pinball
11:00 PM - Masterlegodude: Overall in it's current state, racing seems kind of frustrating and hard to get used to, going through loops it feels harder to fixate yourself to go straight, the items are okay, but it feels like there isn't that much variation
11:00 PM - Masterlegodude: The game, much like any other Gmod Tower gamemode, does not wait for all players to be connected and ready
11:00 PM - Masterlegodude: Which leaves you in the dust if you connect long after everyone else has
11:01 PM - Masterlegodude: Which is more of a problem for a racing game than something like PVP or Zombie Massacre
11:03 PM - Masterlegodude: As a rating for Source Karts in it's current state, i give it a 4 out of 10 as the battle mode is the only thing that really redeems it's fun factor, but as i said, that doesn't seem to end with only 1 person alive as it becomes hard to track down and kill each other on a map that is too open when the player count decreases to at least 2 or 3
I forgot to mention a couple of things, the controls, for those who don't know are pretty much Spacebar (jump, hold while turning to drift), A or D to turn left or right, W or S to go forward or backward, Left Click to use your item, and Right Click to look backwards (which can be used with Left Click to fire an offensive item behind you)
But what saddens me is that you can't optionally use the mouse to steer your vehicle
Also the boost you get while drifting doesn't require shaking around or anything as it happens any time while drifting, but the longer you drift, the better the boost
Again, this is just a first impression, and from only playing on the map with the loops, perhaps it's something you have to get used to in order to be any good at it, but even then, that seems like poor design in it's current stage
So i hope it can be improved as the updates come and go, i feel it's got the potential of being a fun and good quality racing game ... but just not in it's current state...
What are your thoughts on this new gamemode?
