By user friendly I mean admins more open to suggestions.

I feel the same way about that thread as I do towards this one. You just aren't as demanding or pissed off.

^this^

there will be no more maps

I just had a thought. What if 'maps' were brought back, but shaders/shadows would only work on Slate (which would still be adjustable), and when you run a map it reverts back to v20 graphics? Am I on to something here, or is this just a horribly impossible idea?

No, I am not. However, I was thinking of valid reasons instead of charging in like an idiot.
Here is the current reasons no

  • Blockland has one master server, if people can openly use v20 it will create unjoinable servers for people in v21 and all v21 servers will be unjoinable.
  • People were given a 6 months notice in advance before v21 came out, it was not forced at all and we were given time to adjust. Along with the majority of people used slate at the time anyways so there should have been no problem. As well out of 100% I would say that around 50% were excited, 30% were ok but would miss maps for nostalgic reasons; and then about a 20%. A mere 1/5th didn't want the change. The majority was willing to go along with the update
  • We have had shaders for a year and a half now, why do people keep complaining? In fact a lot of people didn't start asking for maps back in till 3 months after the update since at first everyone expected for a series of new and creative gamemodes to come out by the community. What all the people who really keep going on about "I want maps back" are really just the people who have no skill and therefore cant make anything themselves.
  • What Kompressor did was nothing like the google update. We were given a advance notice by half a year. He is not like google coming and changing blockland on his own he became a dev when he first helped with the octo-tree than gave more major input over time. He has always sort of been there.
  • Blockland has been put on steam, a majority of the community will soon have only seen v21. No one is going to miss the older version except that now 20% or less.

Now the problem with being able to pick your version itself is that all updates either add stuff or get rid of bugs. So with adding this in we have players going in and getting old buggy versions with minimum features creating unjoin-able servers for people in the most current. There is no way to fix this since letting people join servers with maps in the current version means that maps are added back in. Which makes renders the whole idea of yours pointless. What we should have is the modification topic over how to make game modes linked and stickied to the top of game modes board. You being to lazy to build is your own problem.

Note: I read the whole topic so I am aloud to complain like this.

i really don't think that's a solution in any way because maps weren't removed solely for the purpose of adding shaders

You pretty much just said everything on my mind, thank you.
