Author Topic: ALS foundation admits 73% of donations were not used for research.  (Read 3954 times)

that website doesn't seem very trustworthy
This is so true, it has ads, but its just pictures built into the site with embedded links

So much misinformation.

Charities have many more expenses than just paying for research.

And just because every last cent isn't going directly into research, it does not mean the company isn't helping the cause. In 2013, 28% of the money went directly to research, 19% went to patient and community services (working with hospitals and caretakers to aid patients already afflicted in various ways), 32% to public and professional education (raising awareness and understanding of the disease and how to deal with it), 14% to fundraising to help bring in more money, and finally a whopping 7% to administration (running offices and paying employees).

A total of 93% of the money is used to directly help people with ALS in some way. Please stop spreading this sensationalist garbage.

I have to agree with this no matter how weird it may sound to anyone that some profit was only going somewhere. They can't just go on good looks alone to get along, they need funding for other odds and ends.

I was addressing his hypothetical situation you loving friend

That's quite the scathing reaction. I would have apologized if I noticed my mistake.

I was addressing his hypothetical situation you loving friend
wtf dren? A simple, "I was addressing his hypothetical situation" would have worked.

That expenses chart is from 2013, which is before the ice-bucket challenge thingy started. That means that you can't be sure that all the money hasn't gone to research just because of how the ALS Foundation budgeted earlier this year. If you could imagine keeping the amount of money they spent on the other slices of the pie equal, but inflating the research part with the money raised through the ice-bucket challenge, you'd probably find that the percent spent on research and education makes up most of the pie.

Bigger question is, why did my adblock not block 4 ads on that page?
