Author Topic: Astroneer - Space shenanigans  (Read 3220 times)

Description

Developed by System Era Softworks, Astroneer puts the players in the shoes of interstellar engineers with tools capable of reshaping and exploring distant planets. Currently trending on Steam, this game manages to cater to many different styles of play, and has a great dev team to back it up. Currently in pre-alpha.

Features

Procedurally generated worlds- Each time you play is a different experience; spawn in a solar system and explore each world and what they have to offer. Every planet has a different biome, which means there are different resources and threats as well. Also explore caves that go well into the depths of the planet, and are home to valuable resources.

Terraforming- Shape the world with the terrain tool, which allows you to manipulate the world however you like. Both entertaining and useful.

Survival- Exploration is fun, but comes at a cost. Keep your oxygen levels stable, have a viable power supply, and don't get stranded. Evade hostile lifeforms and endure the hardships of mother nature.

Base building- Construct your base from raw materials gathered throughout the world, upgrade said base, and research new schemes to upgrade your operations. Starting with only your drop pod, how you design your home is up to you.

Vehicle customization- Build and customize vehicles, both ground-based and space vessels, to suit your needs. Mining tools, storage, power supply, colonizer, you can add and remove modules from your vehicles wherever you are. In addition to this, connect multiple vehicles together for more diverse and effective operations.

4 player co-op- Play with 4 friends! You'll probably kill each other on accident a lot, but its all part of the fun

Personally I love this game, and it has huge room for improvement. The devs are good, they do dev streams and have open forums for ideas and improvements to the game. Totally worth $20 imo, and if anyone has or gets this, I'd be down to do some co-op.

this game is so pretty

i wish it ran better on my pc

its honestly not too demanding, but you will get fps spikes from time to time. but im sure itll only get better, so thats a plus

It's super cool. Looking forward to updates.

it is so beautiful, really enjoyed it and hes been worth the money already even in it's pre-alpha form

for those worrying about how well  it will run, the devs seems to be prioritizing bug fixes and optimization before they focus more on adding new content.

there are also some tweaks you can edit in your appdata/local/astro/saved/config

in engine conf

Code: [Select]

Paths=%GAMEDIR%Content
Paths=../../../Engine/Plugins/2D/Paper2D/Content

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.DefaultFeature.MotionBlur=False
r.AmbientOcclusionLevels=0
r.AmbientOcclusionRadiusScale=1.7
r.postprocessAAQuality=0
r.MotionBlurQuality=0
r.DepthofFieldQuality=0
r.DefaultFeature.DepthOfField=False
r.TextureStreaming=True
r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=0

r.FoliageDrawRadiusMultiplier=2.0
UseVSync=False
r.DynamicShadows=0
OneFrameThreadLag=False
SkeletalMeshLODBias=-1
r.DetailMode=3

[/script/engine.engine]
bDisablePhysXHardwareSupport=False
bSmoothFrameRate=false

and game conf

Code: [Select]
[/Script/Astro.ScalabilitySettings]
PCSettings=(DecoratorLODDistanceScale=700.000000,ViewDistanceQuality=Ultra,TextureQuality=Ultra,ShadowQuality=Low,EffectsQuality=Ultra,FoliageQuality=Ultra,AntiAliasingQuality=Low,PostProcessQuality=Low)

to make the game run smoother, i get like 80-140 fps with these vsync unlocked but you do have to start a new save for these to take effect

Hope it gets farther than No Mans Sky

oh sweet, didn't know this, thanks
it already has
fr tho

It has been 0 days since No Mans Sky comparison  :cookieMonster:

after about 50 attempts and 3 hours i finally got a huge solar panel i found from a crashed satellite back to my base

due to the awful winch control that the game currently has it took forever lol. also doesnt seem like it produces power any faster than a normal solar panel, which is gay. looks cool tho. theres quite a bit of these kinda things around the worlds, i found the voyager space probe in a cave one time
