Author Topic: apparently i'm a "know it all" in people's eyes when i correct them on something  (Read 17137 times)

I was spanked as a kid and I don't fear my dad. I only really "fear" him because he has the most stubborn attitude and train of thought and gets pissed if you don't think the way he thinks
I don't fear my parents or my grandparents either. not everyone will have a problem with it. but how can you justify taking that risk with your children, just because you're too lazy to find a different way to punish them?

There are some kids who don't respond to punishments such as grounding or time out or getting privileges taken away. It really depends on the kid and parents to know what punishment to use

Plus lazy parents don't punish their kids at all btw

those whose parents learned real lessons from spankings usually received spankings when they did something really stupid; it's not about how it's lazy it's just about people believing that if it worked for them, it'd work for their child
hence why corporal punishment is dying out

Agreed with you. Not a lot of parents are punishing their children because now-adays, it's considered "wrong" in the eyes of society. But that's just poking into the topic of how nobody can be offended these days.

i said no and then she gave me the argument that "you'll get a cold/pnemonia if you go out there without multiple layers on". i told her that's not true and explain they're caused by viruses. then the whole "mother knows all" charade and she angrily storms off.
There's research showing immune system markers dropping after exposure to cold temperatures, but there's not an overwhelming consensus over whether that causes more people to get sick during the winter. There's also some evidence that cold weather makes it harder to fight off viruses.

It's true that you gotta get exposed to viruses before you can get sick, but consider the fact that literally every surface in schools/households/etc is covered with viruses that can infect you. You're probably exposed to cold viruses pretty regularly, but you don't always get sick because your innate immune system handles it before it becomes a problem. Decreasing your immune system (possibly through cold weather) might be a much more contributing factor than exposure, since you're probably already exposed to viruses anyway.

Honestly though, the main reason people get sick more during the winter is just because they're inside all day. More opportunities for transmission means more people get sick. But the jury's out over whether that's the only cause.

I don't know who is more of a schmuck here, you guys for arguing about this for so long or me for actually reading it all.

yeah how the forget did this go from "i'm being called a know-it-all" to the non-kinky kind of spanking
