it is abuse when you are applying physical pain in order to teach a lesson. it DOES work, but that doesn't mean it is not abuse. also yes, I have taken psychology and there are plenty of other ways to reinforce positive behaviors and stop negative ones that don't involve beating your child.

provide evidence that any other said "ways" are better more effective or cause less "trauma " and you'll have a legitimate theory there
