Author Topic: apparently i'm a "know it all" in people's eyes when i correct them on something  (Read 17177 times)

can I waterboard my kid whenever he wets the bed? where do you draw the line here?
That's torture though, that isn't punishment

Trying to compare waterboarding to spanking is like when those people compare petty stuff to something like murder or Riddler. They are not on the same level and you know it.
This, you're comparing it to something way too extreme to even be close to comparable only to push a point

He wasn't comparing them, he was pointing out the fact that he's not talking about punishment in general, but a specific subset of it.

It's painful/unpleasant but does not cause any actual physical injuries.

okay maybe he is comparing them nevermind :/

Chipotle ruined my burrito which is something a murderer or Riddler would have totally done.

Nonnel is probably gonna have Vietnam style flashbacks of the horrors of spanking when he's in bed with a lass and she asks him to be rough with her Hahahaha

heh I can picture it now

Using pain as punishment is abuse by every definition. If you want to say you were "lightly" abused to make yourself feel better, then go ahead. It's still abuse.

someone never took psychology lol

oh wait I didn't either but I still know about something called negative/positive reinforcement

punishment=/=abuse

tell me then I guess a speeding ticket is abuse by your standards eih? jail time for murder?

we should ban grounding because it is emotional abuse to bar a kid from his privileges and could cause him to feel bad or emotional pain

It's painful and unpleasant, and it also doesn't cause any injuries, it must be abuse

Going by your logic Nonnel, any form of punishment could be labelled abuse. Because all types of punishment does inflict some type of pain, either emotional or physical, but it never inflicts any injuries.

it is abuse when you are applying physical pain in order to teach a lesson. it DOES work, but that doesn't mean it is not abuse. also yes, I have taken psychology and there are plenty of other ways to reinforce positive behaviors and stop negative ones that don't involve beating your child.

I smell straw

I'm just applying your logic buddy
aka tearing down an argument I never made because there's no way around my actual argument

there is also such thing as verbal abuse

would i be abusing my kids by yelling at them?

if you're constantly insulting them, yes.

I'm making an example that applies your logic

it's fallacious, buddy

explain how providing an example that applies with your logic is fallacious
