I was playing when Vanilla was popular. My brothers found it when we were bored. After a week of playing we got bored and quit. A few years later, I was bored (again) and started playing. I couldn't join this one server, which I then found out was an RTB server. I looked into it and downloaded it when it was ascending from it's peak popularity. I believe Retail was out by the time I started playing RTB. (If you joined a server and saw anything called 'Ghoulius's Bunker,' it was me! :D) My brothers tried to convince me to play Retail so they could see if it was good before they bought it. I didn't want to, since I was having too much fun with RTB. Later, my computer broke. I got another one, but when I re-downloaded RTB, my saves were gone. I was sad with the waste of hard work, so I decided to switch to Retail.
Been playing ever since.
TL;DR: Played vanilla, took a break, came back, played RTB, computer broke, switched to Retail.
