Author Topic: Dawn of War 2  (Read 1212 times)

There's not a thread for this yet?

As you may know the beta is now out exclusively for people who purchased Dawn of War: Soulstorm, and you can only get the beta from steam.

Mr. Smash kindly gifted me Soulstorm and i played the beta.

It's wayyyyyy different. I'm not sure if i like it or not.
It's very very very similar to Company of Heroes, it's like they slapped on a dawn of war theme to Company of Heroes.
No more base building is kind of sad, but there is now a more advanced cover system exactly like in CoH.

The beta is released to the public on January 27th, I hope all of you will download it and try it yourselves.

Post your comments about this game in this thread.

What exactly is this?
I viewed some vids on youtube and it looked kinda like an RTS.

yeah forgot to mention this, though it's kind of obvious.

No base building kills RTS games! D:

CoH, epic I love that game

Not really, see this is why I hate RTS games, bases means you build units, buildable units means rushing, Rushing = failure of a game. This is why I love World in Conflict and CoH, don't get my wrong I love to build bases but online play on them just sucks ass big time.

I myself had problems with base building because as soon as I got into battle I would find myself focusing on it too long, neglecting my base and falling behind on technology putting me on a disadvantage.

What I like about the new system is that you get straight into the action, your HQ menus and stuff can be accessed from the HUD. Meaning you will rarely have to go back to your HQ to get more units, so you can focus on the battle more and not fall behind on technology. Obviously to compensate for no need of base building, they have made the combat system more strategic and harder so it will require your full attention, but it is also more realistic.

I do like Base building still but as i learn the new systems i begin to enjoy them more.

I believe Starcraft 2 will make use of base building and that should be out sometime this year.

The only thing I hate is the low pop cap. I can only have like 2 tanks and a couple of space marine squads while my enemy has a spamfest of scout squads.

New graphics is great, because DoW1 was just plain, it was kind of like comparing Blockland Retail's graphics with v0002.

Another thing that sucks is there is only four races coming with DoW2, but we have the TYRANIDS.
I've been waiting to see those guys since Dawn of War beginning.

A cool thing that I love about Dawn of War 2 is how you can place your squads how you want behind obstacles and such. It does get a little annoying though.

IMO, Dawn of War was a little better in the case of pop cap, but DoW2 is better in other points.
