I have a feeling that this is based somewhat off of Digital, right? Some aspects aren't but it seems so.
Just the art style of some of the computers. WinDOS, the chosen OS of GZ's workstation, is a clone of the Amiga running on DOS using an interface influenced mostly by Digital and a little bit by Gnome. The actual form of the Blockland forums was based on Midnight Commander. The Blockland GUI was somewhat inspired by Doom's and the gameplay is supposed to be similiar to Scorched Earth or Worms. I originally wanted to actually make Blockland look like Doom, but my choices were to edit Doom's wads to look like Blockland, which wouldn't fit into the timeframe or to run a screenshot of Blockland through a pixelize filter and paste a cut up doom hud over it which I think would just look bad. Maybe I'll update Blockland to have a vector style kind of like Battlezone. The isometric perspective was inspired by Introversion Software's Subversion (still in development).
I don't plan on taking the plot of this anywhere near Digital though because the isometric world is where most of the action is going to be happen. Screenshots of computers are mostly for plot elements being introduced (like the email for the mysterious job offer) or if someone uses a computer to solve a puzzle (once the plot really gets rolling each update will probably have a different problem that needs to be overcome. I don't plan on coming up with a 'right' solution, I'll just draw whatever sounds the most fun).
Now I have to figure out how I'm going to draw a spoof of xkcd. Hopefully someone suggests more to do then visit xkfcd because I don't have any immediate ideas for the next update, although a short one site update would be nice for a weekend.
