Author Topic: scheduled defrags/virus scans  (Read 508 times)

right, so i've been a maccigarette all my life

but I'm currently working on getting my own PC up and running. I have it scheduled to defrag at like 1 or 2 AM, and I have Microsoft Security Essentials scheduled to scan for viruses at like 3 AM. Neither of them ever do it, though. MSE says there haven't been any scans done, and defrag utility thing says the last defrag was one I did manually. ):

(yes, I do leave the computer on. i sleep it.)

I'm no expert, but you probably don't need to defrag that often.

yeah i know, im just trying to get it setup. the point is that it's not doing it at all. once it's working i'll change it to something more reasonable.

Semi-true.

Defrag like once a week and you'll be golden

I don't think it'll scan in sleep mode :o

wtf so to do scheduled stuff i have to keep it awake? i thought it would wake itself >:(

i dont understand sleep mode on computers. if your afk'ing a running comp. just turn off monitor.
sleep seems only relavent when you need to close a laptop to move it.

also, i defrag weekly only. not a lot of activity goes on on a computer from day to day to need it to often
defragging doesn't give you a noticeable change anyways unless it hasn't been done in months.
