Author Topic: Need some translation help HISTORIC ARTIFACT INSIDE!  (Read 3723 times)

I'm here on a retainer, so let's get to work.

It's a list of names, from what I can read.  From left to right on the legible kanji:

Sesikei : I cannot write this kanji in my IME because that kanji is so ancient it isn't even supported by windows. What this kanji means is "honesty", but I believe it means "oracle" in this case. Someone probably earned the nickname "Sesikei" by his troop or unit and signed the flag as such.

三上清喜 Mikami Seiki

(cannot read)若人 Masa(...) Wakoto

志度雅夫 Shido Masao

The rest is ancient kanji and/or completely unreadable to me. まほ~

Thanks for actually remembering to post after I asked you <33

Flags like this were good luck charms of sorts, they wrote down there names on the flag to try to rally enough courage to fight the war they were so terribly losing. It's a pretty ancient tradition, and it's definitely a sentimental piece, as it shows the desperation and fear that was present in those that actually owned the flag, but it's sentimental for someone else.

For OP's grandfather it really is just a war trophy.マホ~

Not even a thank you? まほ~
Well i was going to thank you over steam, but i remembered i dont have you on steam.

Well i was going to thank you over steam, but i remembered i dont have you on steam.

So I spent almost five minutes straining my eyes to read the archaic and jinmeiyou kanji on that soiled, winkly rag, and then writing a translation, and I don't get a Steam invite or a thank you? 鳴く~

Frontrox is a meenieface.
