I have never liked promotional crud like badges unless they can be attained by ANYONE because its not really fair to players who maybe cant run a server so they cant get like a "host" badge or like holiday things where if you log on on a holiday you get something, its more like a "congratulations you have no life" badge. Or for doing something like getting 100 percent "i like you" votes because all you need is one jerk, and all of a sudden you don't get that months promotional item. Thats all i have to say about that. For now.

I agree, that is a good rant Fishpen. I agree totally although, a host badge doesn't even sound like something that a sane person would boast about.

Random ideas for badges:

Brick Buster- Break a lifetime total of 1 million bricks
Frequent Flier- Get air-killed 20 times, doesn't need to be consecutive or in the same server.
Expressionist- Use a smiley in 90% of all text messages, you can loose this badge
* Doesn't keep log of chat. Just compares the number of total messages with the number of messages containing :) :( :'( :D D: :O :X and so on.
Blockland Participation Metal- Purchase retail
Loud- Types in caps a lot.

This is EXACTLY what I am talking about. If some of these badges got linked to promotional items or even some sort of rank system, it would contribute to people going insane to get them and the possible downfall of Blockland. Who needs or wants people talking in all caps and smileys? And as for DM badges they could easily be rigged, or would be unfair to players that are sub/above par in that one aspect of blockland.

I disagree. The smiley one is a funny one, I bet astro would have been awarded it. As for the DM ones, really, if you rig it, nobody cares. You deserve it for wasting your time rigging it. You probably won't get that much respect for being air killed 20 times anyway.

And if you really want to rig it so that you win the 1 million brick destructions, well, go ahead. Its your time, use it how you like. I specifically picked badges that would be a complete waste of time to rig.

I never said anything about a ranking system or promotional items. The retail badge could be considered promotional, but everybody gets it. I thought it was funny, its like all those "Certificates of Participation" that you get whenever you go to some event.

They don't need to unlock anything anyway.

So why bother having them? Because they look cool and are fun to collect. They fill up space on your profile. You can gauge how active people are by them, without looking for a post count or anything.
