Good idea, but it'd be really hard to sync it with all the servers. Unless you somehow made a webpage, which constantly downloaded updates. (Which is possible, but a pain to make it update)
But I *might* expirement with a server-side-saved mod. Maybe.
few days old, but i had to comment on this;
You wouldn't need to update constantly. You could update only if you called upon one ID. [assuming that this is made in an official update or a mod]. It would grab the info for that person on the spot, right then. You wouldn't need to constantly stream data from the [web] server, but only call upon the server when needed.
There are a few problems with this idea though;
if it is run by a mod, that means that the mod 'rulers' could have access to these files, and if they ever become 'corrupted,' then they could screw someone over.
server usage. doing something like this could really suck some bandwith from the [web] server, maybe even severely slowing it down. and who knows, maybe badspot does, you know, have a bandwith limit or something. it's possible that it could cost him a lot of money.
people abusing the system. what if a whole clan, such one the size of IRK or USSR or something, was to just say "if you don't down mark this person, you're out of the clan and we'll mark you down too." ? a lot of people would probably actually care what the others would think, or just want to stay in their (probably horrible) clans.
on the plus side, there are two things i could think of;
it could add an extra layer of community to blockland, the little blocklanders with their own mini-spaces to put their IM or their websites, pictures, biography, etc.
it could make the community better. sure, slight chance of this happening, but it's entirely possible that people would start to act /better/ in order to get that higher rep. they wouldn't just mindlessly act like a ****.
and further adding to this, there are some even better improvements this could allow;
friends lists. wouldn't it be nice to open up your BL friends list and join a server? yeah, it would. you could add your "BL_Buddies" using this little window, then join their games any time you'd like. You could also see if a server had someone you'd wish to avoid in it too, i guess.
badges. for example, what about "brick badges" which unlock maybe...a special decal or picture or something? How do you get these "brick badges"? by doing things like getting 1000 kills in DM or placing 100 000 bricks in game. maybe by just getting a nice rep and keeping it for a while. it could be anything, really.
anyways, those are my thoughts.
