Author Topic: I Need a Graphics Card with Low Wattage  (Read 1256 times)

under $150.
I was talking to OP.

But how much wattage does your current PC use out of your 450?

Use calculator here.

AGP is completely obsolete. No hardware is being made for it. It's all PCI and PCI Express.

You would be wrong there my friend. PCI is much slower than AGP, and AGP is more advanced than plain PCI. AGP is suitible for lighter gaming, PCI is not.

And if no more AGP hardware is being made, then explain how i got this brand new AGP Nvidia GPU?

Are you even remotely sure it's an AGP?

There's hardly any decent GPUs for AGP 4x/8x, and there is absolutely no way in hell a gaming-level computer manufacturer would ever use parts that have AGP slots.

Yes, it is an AGP. Not everything you need HAS to use a PCI-e slot.

Explain to me how AGP is in any way "more suitable for lighter gaming".  It's like saying that a smart car (AGP) is better for driving than any other car (PCI-E 2.0).  They can both get you there but one is much better at it than the other.

PCI-E 2.0 allows for much more data to be transmitted between the GPU and the motherboard (as well as the entire system).  AGP is much slower, it's like using USB 1.0 instead of USB 2.0

Plain old PCI is slower than AGP, yes.

PCI express 1.0 x16, used currently, is about 3.75 times faster than AGP 8x.

This November PCI express 2.0 will be released. PCI express 2.0 x16 will be 7.5 times as fast a AGP 8x.

...

PCI 132 MB/s
AGP 4X # 1,066 MB/s
AGP 8X # 2,100 MB/s
PCI Express 16x 8000 MB/s
PCI Express 2.0 16x 16000 MB/s (November 2007)

AGP is highly outdated.

The 6200 came out in like 2004. It is completely obsolete as is AGP. AGP is faster than PCI put nowhere near as fast as PCI-E. AGP was superseded by PCI-E in around 2004 and almost every computer since then has come with a PCI-E slot as the default graphics adapter. There is no way in hell that your friends 2-week old Alienware has an AGP slot. AGP motherboards haven't really even been produced and definitely haven't been sold to manufacturers for use in pre-built systems. I don't even know if the last few chipset releases have even supported AGP.

I had an AGP mobo once for a Radeon 9550.

So guys, I'm thinking about getting the Radeon HD 5450, it's cheap, lower wattage than my current card, and higher performance.

I'm pretty sure that's a fairly good card, especially for low wattage. I also like AMD/ATI so I'd go with it.

That's what I have and its very good.
