Author Topic: Kalphiter's Dedicated Hosting Service is down.  (Read 2010 times)

That's OK, ignore half the issue.
The only reason BL can't communicate with the master server is the poor quality network. The BL issue probably can't be fixed, but the network issue can. I'm happy to point you in the direction of some good deals, but not if you're going to be stubborn.

The BL issue probably can't be fixed
So a server crashing itself because it can't connect is unfixable? You are really not very knowledgeable.

If it requires Badspot to fix it, it's probably easier to fix the issue you can actually fix yourself.

Wedge is going to be doing his just for himself.

I'd honestly wait for Lub to get his started first, Wedge. You may end up liking his enough to save yourself the trouble. From what I understand, the way the remote console works is by editing the Blockland executable.

Maybe, if he let's me install dropbox, run 2 mumble servers, provides a way for me to use remote console from my phone, and charges less than $12/mo. Until I get more details about his hosting service (which doesn't appear to exist yet), I'm going to skip the middleman and experiment with doing it myself.

Logmein has some software that will let me remote desktop from my phone or any public computer that I plan on testing out.

For your benefit, stdout from the Blockland console can easily be piped to a TCP connection using the Python Twisted framework. Obviously it can be done different ways, but Twisted allows effortless async com. Stdin is not so easy as BL uses some weird windows stuff, so a Torque TCP server to accept console commands then eval them is needed. I doubt you'd need any help, but if you need it, feel free to shoot me a PM.
Thanks.

Oh, no idea you were doing all that! Have at it, then.

Just wondering, who do you plan on renting a VPS from? I've had a couple of budget windows virtual machines as test boxes and they struggled to run BL properly, I could probably save you some pain if you were going for a provider I've already used.

I'm currently looking at Art of War Central. Supposedly you get unlimited bandwidth for games, although I don't know if that only applies to games on their list. I'm going to run Windows server 2003 on it and get a RAM upgrade as well. I'm getting one month initially so I can monitor system performance and figure out if I need to buy more ram or bandwidth or switch to a new host.

I also looked into UCV host. If you have any suggestions I'd be happy to hear them. I plan on running a 32 player server so I'm not sure how much ram I need.

Edit: 2 mumble servers, one public (24 slots) and 1 private (8 slots). I expect these to use a trivial amount of resources however.

Not entirely sure what your budget is so I can't really offer any suggestions, but without a doubt the best place to trawl for offers is WebHostingTalk.

Dedicated servers - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=36
VPS - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=104

Avoid extreme budget providers like Server4You and BurstNET, they just won't work for you.

If you can't find a remote desktop software, Teamviewer works pretty ok for me.
