Currently there is someone working on a Cyanogenmod distro of Jelly Bean for the Fire, but it is still under heavy construction.
In short: Yes.
This is why you don't buy cheap tablets.
This is also why I only use Apple products.
Specification wise the tablet isn't too shoddy. Infact it beats the iPad Mini despite costing a bit less.
It's just the OS that isn't functioning very high par.
