Author Topic: mass stabbing at pittsburgh school, 20 injured  (Read 4676 times)

Fix the person, not take away the tool.
Really good point! But once it comes down to people it becomes a thing of what defines morality. Various views affect various psyches.

It just gets complicated from there. And not many people realize that.

And if the person you shot dies, you'd probably be arrested since it's illegal to use lethal force, even in self defense.

It is legal. As long as you use force equal or less than the amount being used to attack you. If someone is threatening you with a gun, you can shoot them. If they are threatening you with a knife, you can stab them' hit them with a bat. If they are punch you you can punch back.

It is only illegal if you use ridiculous force to stop the attack. AKA someone threatening to punch you so you pull out a gun and shoot them dead.

Instead of teachers being the ones carrying weapons, schools should just have armed police patrols/security guards in them like mine does.
My old school was in the (relatively) ghetto area of Beaver & jefferson in Jacksonville fl. It had security guards for that reason and once a homeless guy ran on campus in the morning and tried to attack a student. He got attacked by an old lady

Swing a chair at him at least just to stun him.

kid couldn't even get one kill

0/10 massacre

You can argue about whether or not guns and other weapons should be controlled, but maybe we should think of solutions to prevent kids from murdering each other. It's clear that people are always going to get their hands on a weapon somehow.

Maybe if there was a program that could encourage the importance of mental health, and that seeing a therapist or psychiatrist doesn't make you a nutjob. So far there's a big misconception that talking about your feelings makes you sound like a wimp.
This has been pretty much what I've been saying about these kinds of cases for the past year or so.

Regular mental health checks should be a thing. During my education, I've only taken an insanity test once, and all it really asked was "Are you insane? Y/N".

We can also blame the media for school shootings. When CNN and others toot and poot these unfortunate cases and demonize the person who did it and shower him with attention with ridiculous "24h live coverage" things, all they're doing is causing mass hysteria to the public and sending a message to potential murderers that if they kill, people will care about them.

The media is generally a really immoral attention whoring fest. In Finland, under the shadow of the Ukraine riots, the local news keeps trying to cast mass hysteria on the people here by constantly making reports about Russia trying to get us next. It's ridiculous and especially when you notice that they aren't directly implying, but using innuendo to send the message because they're A) starfishs B) cunts C) starfishs in cunts D) absolutely wrong.

Either in 2012 or 2013, a man ran onto my campus with a rifle after a dispute with a neighbor. The school was put on lockdown, but even though it was on a Monday, there just so happened to be an off day, so only staff were inside.

Still, making something legal will make it easier to obtain and more people will do it. Bans can be avoided, but they help in a way.
Did you study the prohibition at all?

the story behind this one: "DO IT FOR THE VINE"

Did you study the prohibition at all?
Still waiting for the govt to ban pretty girls lol

That doesn't sound very ridiculous to me. If someone threatened that they were going to "kick my ass" in real life and i owned a weapon, I'd do everything in my power to defend myself.

In the police you use reasonable force.

general idea:
threatens you -> talk him down and detain
approaches you and then threatens you -> draw baton
charges you with fist -> taser, spray, baton
knife/club/gun -> gun

and again reasonable force, just because a guy in a wheel chair says he can kick my ass doesn't mean I should come up to him and beat him up. Now a wheel chair guy with a gun is a different story.

Do police still use batons?  Idk about other places, but I don't think any cops around here use them.

More accurate depiction of police force:
Threatening -> taser
anything else -> gun

Zero tolerance policies and the ridiculous amount of tests we have both have to be changed.
