I didn't have to announce to my family that I was straight.
Not because acceptance issues. It's because it dosnt concern them at all.
Why do gay people give such a forget about family acceptance. Yet most of em will declare gay pride.
You can't do both
maybe your parents don't care. doesn't mean everyones' parents don't. it's not absurd to assume they'd be concerned with having grand children or that they might find homoloveuality morally reprehensible/something they don't want their kid to be. i don't see why you can't do both either. then again, i'm not really sure what you mean by gay people concerning themselves with family acceptance. even if your love life doesn't concern them, they are allowed to know about your romantic life. and if they do concern themselves with your loveuality, and you're still dependant on them, and they're extremely bigoted/religious, they could disown you or punish you or rescind your college fund or something crazy like that.
